The story begins in 1994 in Oria Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria, where a remarkable black woman named Queen began her journey as a dressmaker. Working with used fabrics, she transformed what had already lived into something meaningful. Where others saw what was worn, she saw possibility. Through bold colour, exaggerated silhouettes, and refined handcraft, she developed a distinctive design language that expressed confidence, emotion, and quiet sophistication.
For Queen, clothing was never just clothing. Her practice was rooted in care. She repaired, reshaped, and restored garments for individuals within her community, treating fabric as something lived in, remembered, and respected. Storytelling lived in every stitch. In 1995, she worked alongside her
sister-in-law in a local shop, balancing craftsmanship with trade and embedding her work into everyday life and shared identity.
On 17 November 2008, Queen passed away. What remained was not only memory, but meaning. She left behind five children who grew up understanding the depth of a mother’s love, her ability to nurture life and shape generations beyond her time. From this truth emerged a defining belief: every mother is a queen, and every life born is a legacy.
Founded on 27 May 2020, Queens Born was established as an act of remembrance transforming grief into creativity, and memory into movement. Today, the house creates expressive luxury through skilled craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Each piece is a chapter connecting past and present, the individual and the collective.
